What do you believe?

What do you believe?

Do you believe that life is hard? Do you believe that we live in a scary, dark, hopeless time?

Or, do you believe that life can be easy, joyful and full of possibility? That you are safe and supported and that life is always working out for you?

Maybe you believe some parts of both sides.

Wherever you fall, ask yourself:

Is what I believe true for me?

If you believe that life is difficult and scary—has that been your experience? Is that what happens in your life or what you see around you all the time?

And if you believe that life is good and that there are always new and exciting opportunities—has that been your experience? Have things continued to get better and do you see goodness around you all the time?

What people don’t always understand is that whatever you believe about yourself and the world will become true in your life.

If you believe that good will come–it will.

If you believe that you are destined for ill will and difficulty–you are.

You have different beliefs in all areas of your life: your health, your career, your relationships, your financial situation, your creativity, your intelligence.

Whatever you believe about that part of your life is what will be true for you.

There are many that will argue about this.

Lorna, you mean that I have caused all of these things to happen in my life?

Yup.

Your beliefs create your life. What you think will happen, what you believe about yourself…will become your truth.

Some people get very angry about this. They don’t want to accept it, they don’t want the responsibility.

That is fine, but it doesn’t make the fact of it any less true.

So if you have this superpower (and everyone does), what would happen if you used it to your benefit?

What if you got really clear on what you wanted and started changing and molding your beliefs so that they fit your goals?

Think about it:

~When you get into a pattern of worrying, doesn’t it seem like there is always more to worry about?

~When things are going well, doesn’t it seem like nothing bad can touch you?  (Unless you are “waiting for the other shoe to drop”—which, of course, it will).

~When you constantly feel pressed for time, aren’t you stuck in that feeling even when you don’t have anywhere to be or anything you have to be doing?

~When you expect a positive outcome, don’t you get it? (Again, unless there is another belief in your psyche contradicting it).

When I first learned that my thoughts make my reality and could look back at my life and recognize all that I had drawn to myself, both good and bad, it was the most empowering feeling I have maybe ever had.

I was in charge.

My life wasn’t where I wanted it to be, but now I knew it wasn’t random! I wasn’t at the mercy of the fates.

I had done it all to myself and if I had gotten myself into the mess, well then I could sure as hell get myself out!

Yes, I had believed a lot of things that did not serve me. But lots that had and all I needed to do was clean up the rest to have the life I had always dreamed of.

Shining a light on our beliefs can be very surprising. So much of what we believe is so longstanding, so ingrained, that we don’t recognize it as a choice–we think it is a fact. We think it is just the way we are.

That is a big part of the shift that happens–moving away from those deep seated beliefs into a new reality for yourself.

Does it happen overnight?

Hell no.

It will always be a work in progress, because there is much digging to be done to find all of those pesky beliefs—but the huge positive changes along the way are undeniable.

When you get very clear that everything in your life is your own doing, it puts you in the drivers seat to have the life you desire.

How awesome is that?

I know, I know.  You have questions. This brings up a lot for you. What about child abuse? What about illness and death and natural disaster? Why would people be bringing these things to themselves?

That can’t possibly be true, Lorna.

It is and I have answers for all of it.

But it’s too much to go into here, so you will have to set up a call with me to get them.

In the meantime, start paying attention.

Is what you believe true for you? (It always is).

Are you satisfied with your life the way it is?

If not, how can you clean up your beliefs? How can you believe something else, so that your experience of life can start being different?

You know I’m here to help. Hit Contact in the upper right corner of this page to set up your Discovery Session.

Let’s get your beliefs straightened out so that you can finally have those things you’ve always wanted!

Lorna

This is the seventh in a series of nine posts. In the first, I set forth the 8 underlying principals of my coaching philosophy. This past Summer and now Fall, I have been sussing out each point individually. You can read the previous installments here:

You’re Making Sh*t Up

In order to change your life, you must first change your mind.

You’re making sh*t up

You’re making sh*t up

It was a simple sentence. “I’m dropping two classes and will be a part time student this semester.” When she said it, I smiled and nodded. I stayed positive and supported her decision.  While I felt that way in the moment, afterwards, alone, my mind started churning. Why is she doing this? What will she…Keep Reading

Mirror, Mirror

Happy Labor Day weekend! As usual, the summer seems to have slipped by in the blink of an eye.   As I sat down to write about how your life on the outside is always a mirror of how you feel on the inside, I wanted to start with a quote. During my Google search,…Keep Reading
