Greetings from 36,000 feet. I’m currently in route to Dallas for my daughter’s bridal shower. She’s getting married this October to a wonderful man and our family is so excited about their upcoming nuptials. Especially during this challenging year, it has been wonderful to have something happy to focus on.
I want to thank everyone who took the time to reach out last week after my extended absence. Your words of support and encouragement were tremendously uplifting. I also loved reading your Summer updates. Exciting stuff!
Depending on how long you’ve been reading here, you may know that my coaching methods have expanded over the years. What started out as Wellness Coaching quickly morphed to full Life Coaching. After another training, Transformational Coaching was added and soon, certification pending, my title will include Metaphysical Life Coach.
The biggest part of being a coach is encouraging clients to grow and change, so it is important to me that I do the same.
During my coaching evolution, with all of the programs, certifications and books read, I have developed a philosophy that I live and coach by.
While some may consider these points New Age, what I have learned is that the basis of this philosophy is as ancient as time itself. These truths have been known through the ages by sages, mystics, shamans and religious leaders alike.
To our detriment, much of this has been lost or convoluted in our present day culture. Which is why I believe it is so important for everyone to understand that what you see around you everyday isn’t telling the whole story.
There is so much more to life than what you can perceive with your senses and, crucially, the part that you can’t see is what holds unlimited potential for you.
So today, in honor of my view from the clouds, I want to share the 36,000 foot view of my coaching philosophy and then for the rest of the summer, my weekly missives will elaborate on each point individually.
How to Live Your Life more Fully
#1 You Gotta Want It
In order for your life to be different, you must first want to change and then be willing to put in the effort. There is an intention and a focus necessary to bring about what you desire. It doesn’t have to be hard, but you do need to be committed.
#2 Be your own Best Friend
Taking care of your body, mind and soul first is the key to having the life experience you crave. While many cringe at the thought of prioritizing themselves (and mistakenly think that it makes them selfish), ironically it is the thing that allows you not only to be happier and more fulfilled, but also allows you to give more to those you love.
#3 Life Purpose 101
You are here on this earth for Life School. You are not here to achieve, accumulate, prove or win at anything. You are here to love, grow and learn. Your relationships, the way you interact with the world, how you feel about yourself and others is the true measure of how you’re doing.
#4 It’s a Reflection
The world that you see outside of you is a mirror of what is happening inside of you. Once you embrace this truth, it becomes easier to stop fighting life and start focusing on what needs to be worked on within.
#5 You’re making sh*t up
Almost all of what you worry, stress and feel guilty about is a made up story. How you feel and what you think about is a choice. Change your habitual thought patterns and incredible things will start to open up for you.
#6 What you believe, you will be
Your unexamined beliefs, the unwritten rules that you consciously or unconsciously abide by are what is holding you back from what you say you want. Change those beliefs and you will change your life.
#7 If you can imagine it, you can have it
You can be, do or have whatever you want. The only caveat is that you need to fully believe that it can be yours. The only person holding you back from anything is YOU—despite all of the stories and excuses you make up to the contrary.
#8 You are never alone
You are supported by a greater intelligence that is always available to you. Life is not random and you are always being looked out for—even when the opposite seems true. Life happens for you, not to you. When you see life through this lens the world becomes a panacea of opportunity.
I hope this philosophy got you thinking and perhaps even made you mad. If you loved or hated something in particular, please hit reply and let me know what it was so that I can either respond personally or include it in the expanded version of that point.
Next week—are you in or out?– why your commitment is the most important part of any true transformation.
Bridal Shower Hugs,
In order to change your life, you must first change your mind.
