I was planning to tell you about my weekend on a Middle School trip. I still want to share about that trip because I learned an important lesson—but that’s going to have to wait until next week.
Instead, today I want to write a letter to women everywhere.
A little background. An old friend reached out this week and said she was considering working with me. Like many of my clients, this lovely lady is a wife, mom and career woman. Like so many of us, she is juggling A LOT. Being that she is a friend, I was considerate of coming on too strong or being salesy. I try to avoid that in general and especially with friends.
But here’s the thing. Whenever I think about how much coaching can help women it is hard to keep my mouth shut and not try to convince people to give it a try. Coaching is increasing in popularity. There are tons of articles and studies touting the benefits. But I find with women particularly it is hard for them to make the choice to invest in themselves. For me, this is the exact reason they should.
Anyway—while I was responding to my friends email in my head it occurred to me this could be a message for all women. So I decided to make it an open letter. Here goes.
Dear Beautiful Woman,
You said you were considering coaching. I could give you a million reasons why I think this is a great idea. There are lots of results that I could point you towards. But you have probably read them already.
Want to know the number one reason I think that you should try it?
Because coaching is 100% about YOU. YOU and YOU alone. It is one hour a week when you get to talk about yourself and your life. You don’t have your husband looking cock eyed at you. You don’t have to worry that your friends are judging you for that blow up with the kids that you just told them about. You can say whatever you want without worrying about how it looks or sounds.
This hour every week is a safe place to be yourself, to speak your truth. This is a confidential zone to really open up and talk about the ins and outs of your daily life.
Let’s face it—no matter how good your relationships are, no matter how supportive your husband and friends may be—-you do not get a full hour every week to talk about your stuff. You don’t have anyone’s undivided attention to come up with strategies and new ways of dealing with situations. It simply doesn’t happen.
But with coaching? It does. Every week our time together is a space where major a-ha’s can occur. Dots can be connected where you couldn’t see them before. Slight tweaks can change your life dramatically. Something as simple as a two minute chore can get you doing something you have wanted to institute for years.
Will your family benefit from your coaching? Absolutely. Will life in your house be better for it? Without a doubt. Will you make changes that will make you feel great about yourself? You betcha.
But most importantly you will be investing in you. You will be doing something for yourself. When was the last time you did that? You do it for your kids all the time. You don’t think twice when you need to pay $$$ for sports equipment or dance lessons. That is non-negotiable, right? How about when the boiler dies? Another non-negotiable, right?
Coaching is something that doesn’t fall into the usual categories. This is not for the kids, the dog, not for the house or for family vacation. This is for YOU.
When was the last time you made yourself a non-negotiable? How do you think it would feel if you did?
Hugs,
Lorna
P.S. And if this wonderful letter still isn’t enough to convince you, remember: first sessions with yours truly are always complementary. Contact me and we can set yours up.
So beautiful Lorna. You speak directly but ever so gently to the heart of every woman. Will this special letter be featured on your website as an invitation to women who visit you? Thank you for sharing this important message. X.
Yes, the power of having some-one by your side who you can trust has immeasurable benefits. This is beautifully written. And I totally agree!
I love this approach. You nailed it. So often we have a hard time giving ourself permission to take time for us. What a beautiful letter to women everywhere. What gorgeous permission given. I hope many women get to read this and take it to their hearts.
What a great letter! If only your friend could see that if she starts to invest in herself, non negotiably, her kids will also see how important it will be for them to do the same one day.
So many of us have a hard time finding people to listen to us without judgement or trying to fix things for us. Yours is a valuable resource that too few people take advantage of.
Yes! I love this Lorna. I am so happy you wrote this letter and explained so eloquently how important coaching is, and that it really is a non-negotiable. As a health coach, I often get sad when fellow moms and women don’t see the value of having this time be 100% about them. Truly.
Beautifully said, Lorna! You so nailed it – women DO have such a difficult time investing in themselves -gifting themselves the time and attention that they so deserve. Thank you for a wonderful expression of how coaching is such a valuable tool in restoring balance and fulfillment in today’s crazy busy world.
What a great letter, Lorna! It’s so true. Women tend to put everyone else first in their lives. Every woman deserves at least an hour of introspection a week.
Lorna you’re a gift to this world! This is so beautiful, and so powerful.
Enjoyed this, Lorna. It’s about ME and I’m worth it 😉 Thank you!
i believe YOU are the beautiful woman, lorna. such a lovely letter, such an important message. “Because coaching is 100% about YOU. YOU and YOU alone.” thank you.
I so agree, Lorna. Such a beautiful letter to remind women that they need time to express themselves, know the value of who they are and what they do.
